Harry’s model railroading was reignited after a hiatus of nearly four decades, sparked by N Scale videos by Mike Fifer in New Mexico. Intrigued, he sought the latest tips on modeling and delved into Arduino and Raspberry Pi microcontrollers. Thus, he embarked on constructing a petite N scale DCC Arduino layout to experiment with scenery and train and animation control.

Despite its compact dimensions of 32 inches by 64 inches, it features two complete loops capable of running two trains concurrently or configured for a twice-around route to extend the journey. Additionally, it boasts a six-track stub yard, a passing siding, and five freight spurs—quite an abundance of track for its size, yet surprisingly functional.

All 17 turnouts are managed by small servo motors driven by Tam Valley Octopus drivers, and the entire layout operates within a single NCE DCC power district.

The mountainous terrain primarily consists of florist foam, sculpted with Sculptamold for lightweight yet detailed rock faces. Planting trees is a breeze, simply inserting them into the foam. Harry crafted trees from dried twigs of Heavenly Bamboo, achieving realistic deciduous trees with ease.
