What I love about Tom’s double-level OO scale track plan is how he’s managed to create something that looks incredibly intricate yet remains accessible and fun to operate. At first glance, the layout seems like a maze of tracks, but when you break it down, it’s a cleverly designed setup that makes great use of the space. Tom has truly made the layout his own, and it shows in every detail.

The double-level design offers a whole new dimension of excitement. On the lower level, Tom has modeled a bustling urban scene, complete with a station, sidings, and a freight yard. The upper level takes the trains out into the countryside, with sweeping curves, bridges, and a small village nestled in the hills. What really stands out is the way Tom has connected the two levels. The incline is gentle and well thought out, so trains transition smoothly from one level to the next without any awkward jerks or sudden stops.

He didn’t get bogged down in overplanning. Instead, he jumped right in, experimenting with different track configurations until he found something that worked. And it works beautifully. The layout has a flow to it that feels natural, with trains moving seamlessly between the levels, passing through tunnels and over bridges, creating a sense of adventure.

What I admire most is Tom’s attention to detail. From the LED lighting that brings the layout to life at night to the careful placement of scenery, it’s clear that he’s poured his heart into this project. And yet, despite all the detail, the layout doesn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming. It’s a perfect balance of complexity and simplicity, and it shows that with a little creativity, you can make a double-level OO scale layout that’s both impressive and fun to operate. Tom’s track plan is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when you combine a passion for trains with a willingness to dive in and experiment.
