“Hi, I have added pic’s of my triple loop with sidings – I have made layouts over the years witch I’m happy to let others see.
Chris”
You can see Chris’s layout pics here – impressive stuff.
Over the years he’s made lots of layouts, there’s quite a few pics to see.
One of the great things about this hobby is a layout is never really finished. There is always something to do – there may be a scene you’d like to drop in, or you finally get round to ripping up a part that derails too often.
But here’s the rub of it. When it is ‘finished’, it’s at that exact moment you decide to build a brand new layout, bigger and better without all the faults of the previous one… and so it begins.
Anyhow, judging from the pics of his layouts, Chris looks like he’s had a blast over the years. This triple loop with sidings caught my eye though, a simple layout that looks great.
As you’ll read, it’s the simple layouts, and the simple stuff when it comes to model railroads, that seems to work best. No surprises there!
In fact, if you’re just dipping your toe into this hobby, you’ll find you will get the most out of it by keeping your first layout simple, because there is lots of stuff along the way that will drive you nuts.
In fact, if you want some really good advice from some folk who have been having fun with model railroads for decades, you could do worse than reading this: How to start a model train layout. (Read the comments too – they are worth their weight in gold.)
If you do make a start – and that’s the important part – it is enormously satisfying seeing it come to life, however long it takes. It’s not unusual for a layout to take years because as I said, you’ll find they are never finished…
If it helps, a 4×8 layout in HO scale is a safe starting point, it’s very popular, you’ll see lots of them.
